Prehnite
Prehnite, a calcium-aluminium silicate mineral, was first discovered in 1788 by Dutch mineralogist Colonel Hendrik von Prehn in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, making it one of the first minerals named after a person. Found in igneous and hydrothermal rocks, it occurs globally, with notable deposits in China, Australia, and the United States. Known for its translucent green to yellow hues, smooth texture, and vitreous lustre, prehnite is highly valued for jewellery, ornamental carvings, and its distinctive botryoidal formations.
